Musing 10 - Father's Day tips from Ashley

With Father’s Day coming up, I wanted to jump in and talk about our designs for men or for any of you guys who have been wondering where to start with Alkemie.

Our belt collection is a good place to begin. Nearly 20 years ago in my previous jewelry collection, I had several belt buckle designs with vintage belt straps attached. I always loved the look of a unique, distressed vintage strap attached to a buckle. I felt that as leather ages it only becomes more soulful. I love the way the leather continues to collect its own unique patina the more it’s worn and ultimately tells its own story. I wear the Moon and Stars buckle that I made for myself in reclaimed sterling, and it lives on my favorite vintage leather strap.

Our leather wrapped bracelet designs are also a style from my previous line. The snake wrap bracelet, nugget bracelet and key chain bracelet were designs I came up with nearly 25 years ago and are still some of my favorite pieces. A good classic design never goes out of style. I like layering them all together on my wrist as well. I feel that leather gives a nice warmth to our metal blend and patinas nicely over time.

I also carry our Skull with Rose design keychain. This particular style can also be a bag fob, or you can slide it onto a chain and wear it as a pendant. I like pieces that can work more than one way.

I’m not a big necklace wearer myself, but we have several rockers that love the Hawk Head Lariat. The truth is all of our pieces are unisex. It’s really about your own personal aesthetic and what you feel comfortable rocking. 

For rings, most men land in size 10 or 11, and the simpler, bolder styles tend to be the favorites. They have a nice weight, good proportion and feel comfortable on the finger.

All of our pieces are hand cast in Los Angeles out of a 100 percent reclaimed metal blend of copper and zinc with zero nickel, zero lead and no plating. Every piece starts as something old and becomes something new, and I’ve always loved that part of our story.
